Joy Fischer, 68, of Sioux City died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 at her residence.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Christy Smith Morningside Chapel with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will be held at Noon until service time at the chapel.

Joy was born in Sioux City on March 31, 1954, the daughter of Edward P. and Greta J. (Harris) Kroll. She attended Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from East High School with the class of 1972. She then attended Western Iowa Tech Community College for two years. Joy worked as a jailer for the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department for six years, she then began a career as a resident counselor for the Sioux City Boys and Girls Home for 29 years, retiring in October of 2021 due to poor health.

Joy loved crocheting, shopping daily at the Goodwill, and just sitting outside bird watching and admiring her many flowers. She loved HGTV and all of the cooking shows. She also enjoyed going to Las Vegas and Florida. She always told bad jokes that she expected laughter from, and her family Friday nights. She especially enjoyed taking her mother and going to the casino, and out to lunch.

Joy is survived by her daughter Stacy Ferris (Billy) of Sioux City; mother Greta of Sioux City; granddaughter Sara Gritten and her fiancé Korey Stolze; sisters Jill Wright (Roger) of Moville, and Beth Kelly of Sioux City; nieces Abbie and Emily Kelly; and a host of many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Edward; and brother Jeff.
