Edward Virgil Coon 1888 - 1957

Edward V. Coon, son of George W. and Ella E. Coon, was born at Louisburg, Missouri, October 2, 1888, and passed away at a Sioux City hospital August 2, 1957, at the age of 65 years. He had been afflicted with asthma the greater part of his life. He had a heart attack July 5.

He was married to Esther Anderson in December, 1910, and to this union were born five children: Lynn of Portland, Merlin and Lowell of California, Duane of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Marjorie Thompson of Portland. Other survivors are fifteen grandchildren, one brother, William Coon of Hinton, Iowa, and five sisters, Mrs. Cora Queener of Kansas City, Missouri, Verna Coon of Anthon, Mrs. Bertha Anderson of Correctionville, Mrs. Irma Coleman of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Maude Page of Hinton, and a host of fiends and relatives.

He had farmed in the Anthon and Correctionville areas and in Cherokee County for several years. He had resided in Sioux City the past twenty-five years. He later married Nellie Casey who passed away in 1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, G. Fred and Clarence Coon of Sioux City, one sister, Mrs. Edna Marsh of Los Angeles, California.

Services were held August 4 at Wilson-Hull Home with Lyle Fishback officiating. Dean Cockburn, organist, played "Old Rugged Cross", "Abide With Me", and "Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go". Mrs. Eva Forch and Mrs. Lillian Peterson took care of the flowers and six nephews were pallbearers. Cleve Robinson arranged cars. Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery.

Those who attended from out-of-town included Duane Coons, Boise, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Coon, Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Irma Coleman, Long Beach, California, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mills, Lillian Perazzo, George Lund, John Sagter, Jessie E. Glaze, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Robinson of Sioux City, Mrs. Wilber Coon, Mrs. Zelma Babcock and Miss Goldie Coon of Leeds, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery O'Connell of Anthon.
