Mrs. Coon Dies Leaving 74 Direct Descendants

Nearly sixty members of her immediate family were mourners at the funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Coon, an old resident of Woodbury County who was buried here Tuesday.

She leaves seven children, thirty-four grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, all living in this vicinity with the exception of two sons, Thomas of Reece, Kansas, and Jasper of Chico, California. The other children are William, George, Isaac, Mrs. Alice Robinson and Mrs. Maggie Summers.

Two children died in infancy.

Elizabeth Jane Blake was born in Barbersville, Virginia, December 7, 1826, and died at the home of her son Isaac in Correctionville April 10, 1910.

She married George Coon in 1843 and moved to Adair Co., Iowa, and in 1876 she moved to Woodbury County, her husband having died in 1873. She united with the Christian Church fourteen years ago. For several years she has been enfeebled and since last July confined to her bed, gradually growing weaker.

The funeral was held in the Methodist Church here conducted by Rev. F.C. Taylor of Kingsley whose acquaintance with the family date back to his pastorate in Anthon. Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Coon of Sioux City attended the funeral which was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends.
