Arthur John Witcombe 1864 - 1911

After an illness of nine days, Arthur Witcombe, who was a tenant on Ernest Murnan's farm northwest of town, died May 22, 1911. His ailment was diagnosed as obstruction of the bowels.

He had been in this country only three years but had endeared himself to all who knew him.

Arthur John Witcombe was born at Crompton, Somersetshire, England, February 2, 1864. He was married to Mary Ann Godfrey at Bristol on October 1, 1891. To this union were born three children, Ernest John, and two that died in infancy.

He came to Iowa in May 1908 and was farming four miles north and one mile west of Correctionville. He passed away at his home May 22, 1911, at the age of 47 years, 3 months and 20 days.

Survivors include his widow, son, plus his parents, three sisters and a brother in England.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church in England.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.J. Davies at Good Hope M.E. Church and interment was made in Good Hope Cemetery.
