William Joel "Willie" Wilson 1865 - 1938

William J. Wilson passed away Friday night after several weeks of serious illness and suffering. Five daughters were watching over his bedside. His only son, traveling a long distance from the west coast was unable to join the family until several hours after his death.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the M.E. church with Rev. W.F. Lane officiating. Interment was in Good Hope Cemetery.

Willie Joel Wilson was born at Polo, Carrol Co., Illinois, March 21, 1865, and passed away at his home in Pierson October 15, 1938, aged 73 years, 6 months and 24 days.

He was the son of Allen J. and Eliza Wilson. His mother died when he was one year and eight months old. Then he went to live with his grandparents, Elexis and Cloie Wilson, for seven years, after which he went to live with his father and stepmother. Later he made his home with an uncle, Charlie Wilson at Gilman, Iowa. Here he united with the M.E. church at age nine. Later his membership was transferred to the Methodist church in Remsen. When a young man he went to Alton, Kansas, with his father and family where he lived a number of years. He was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Jane Brittain of Alton, Kansas, on May 4, 1890. To this union were born seven children, one of whom, baby William, preceded him in death April 20, 1902.

His wife and six children are left to mourn - Mrs. W.Z. Nelson of Mutual, Oklahoma, Mrs. H.V. Minor of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. R.C. Nelson of Woodward, Oklahoma, Mrs. J.J. Stevens of Pierson, R. Allen Wilson of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. H. L. Johns of Pierson.

There are also fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, a half-brother, Ernest J. of Amherst, Texas, a half-sister, Jessie Bartz of Lincoln, Nebraska, and an aged aunt, Libbie Scott of Pierson.
