Mary Cleao Parks was born January 12, 1892, to Mary Cathryn Ortman and Isaac James Parks at Danbury. She was the 12th child of a family of fourteen children. She passed away on July 28, 1960, at her home in Correctionville as the result of a heart condition from which she had suffered for several years.

Her early childhood was spent in Danbury. Her father passed away when she was twelve. The family then moved to a farm near Washta.

In 1908 she moved to Correctionville with her mother and two sisters. She worked in a bakery for four years before her marriage. On February 4, 1914, she was united in marriage to William R. Utesch.

To this union seven children were born. They lived on a farm near Midway for one year and then moved to a farm north of Correctionville. Mrs. Utesch was a member of the Methodist church in Correctionville. She was a member of the WSCS from whom she received a life membership pin in January, 1960.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away May 7, 1960, her parents, twelve brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 13, at the Methodist church with Rev. M.C. Melcher officiating and burial was in Good Hope Cemetery under direction of Wilson-Hull Funeral Home.

Survivors include her seven children, Mrs. Gerald Goodwin (Faye), Mrs. Frank Altemus (Violet), Mrs. Melvin Hoppe (Marjorie), all of Correctionville, Mrs. Marvin Volkert (Alice) of Washta, Mrs. Leonard Todd (Phyllis) of Correctionville, Mrs. Verlyn Friedricksen (Wanda) of Cushing, and Wm. Utesch, Jr. of Washta, one sister, Mrs. Cora Cardwell of Turner, Oregon, 25 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
