William Rudolph Utesch 1889 - 1960

William Rudolph Utesch was born on a farm near Midway on May 3, 1889, to Rudolph and Louise Ossenschmidt Utesch. He was baptized there in the Lutheran faith. He grew to manhood in that vicinity and as a young man moved to Correctionville where he was engaged in carpentry for three years. On February 4, 1914, he married Mary Cleao Parks in Sioux City. They returned to a farm at Midway for two years and then in 1916 moved to a farm north of Correctionville where they lived for 30 years.

Seven children were born to this union, all of whom survive their father's death. They include six daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Faye) Goodwin, Mrs. Frank (Violet) Altemus, Mrs. Melvin (Marjorie) Hoppe, Mrs. Marvin (Alice) Volkert, Mrs. Leonard (Phyllis) Todd and Mrs. Wanda Kummer, and one son, William Utesch, Jr.

Fourteen years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Utesch moved to Correctionville to their present home. Mr. Utesch passed away Saturday morning, May 7, 1960, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Anna Bernhardt of Triumph, Minnesota.

Survivors besides the widow and seven children include three sisters, Mrs. Emma Meyer of Sioux City, Mrs. Clara Hatch and Mrs. Bertha Nelson both of Wakonda, South Dakota, two brothers, Emil of Kalispell, Montana, and Harry of Moville, and 24 grandchildren. He was buried in Good Hope Cemetery.
