Ray "Red" Thompson 1897 - 1973

Ray "Red" Thompson was born April 24, 1897, at Washta, Iowa, and came to Sioux City at the age of 20. He worked for Tower Construction Company here for 15 years before retiring in 1959.

He was a veteran of both World War 1 and World War 2. Mr. Thompson married Freda Jackson in 1920 in Sioux City. She died in 1935. Mr. Thompson died July 25, 1973, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services were held at the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside with Rev. A. Harold Sparks, pastor of Crescent Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery, Correctionville.

Survivors include two sons, Donald R. of San Diego, California, and Harley E. serving with the Army in Germany, a brother, Lloyd of Westfield, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Gladys Girton of Harlingen, Texas, eight grandchildren and a great grandchild.
