Josephine Thompson was born in Clinton Co., Iowa, February 8, 1872, the daughter of John Reinhold Hamren and Anna Cavenaugh. She married John Snyder "Richard" Thompson, a local agent of the Standard Oil Company.

They had six children. Mrs. Thompson died at a hospital in Sioux City on March 29, 1903, (headstone says 1902) following an operation from which she never recovered.

She leaves a husband, and five small children, the oldest 13 years old. The funeral services were held March 31 from the M.E. church conducted by Rev. Mahood, interment being in Good Hope Cemetery.
