John Snyder Thompson died Thursday, July 4, 1940, at a Sioux City hospital.

He was born at Andrew, Iowa, August 15, 1866, to Alexander Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Snyder. When a small boy he moved with his parents to a farm near Anthon and has resided in Woodbury County all his life except two years at Kingsley and three years at Dallas, South Dakota. He married Ann Hamren of Correctionville who passed away in 1903.

To this union were born two sons and four daughters: Esther who died in infancy and Merle who died in 1924; Mrs. Ethel Fey of Anthon, Mrs. Edith Davis of Pierson, Mrs. Mona Fox of Wheatland, and Earl Thompson of Sioux City; two half-sisters, Mrs. Alice Cagley of Kingsley and Mrs. Mertie Heald of Long Beach, California, and a half-brother, Jay Thompson of Sioux City.

He established a record of service in the employment of the Standard Oil Company, having received recognition as having served the longest length of time as its Correctionville agent. Day after day for many years he distributed fuel oil, by team, to Pierson, Anthon, Holstein, Cushing and Kingsley.

He was a lover of fine horses and in his stable was always a track horse to pull down laurels at celebrations and special events.

Funeral services were held in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Fey, at Anthon on Saturday afternoon with Rev. Garner Osborn, pastor of the Methodist Church in Oto, officiating. Burial was made in Good Hope Cemetery.
