Harold Edward Schwarz 1925 - 2002

Harold Edward Schwarz died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at the age of 77 at the McAllen (TX) Heart Hospital after heart bypass and valve replacement surgery.

As a child, Harold suffered from Rheumatic Fever which had damaged his heart. He was born on July 26, 1925 in Sheldon, Iowa and was raised on the family farm in Sibley, IA. Harold attended Wilson 5, a one room county school from first through eighth grade and High School in Sibley. After High School, he enlisted in the Army, where he finished basic training and shortly thereafter he was honorably discharged due to a sickness. After the Army, he moved to Sioux City, IA to find work and took a position at the stock yards. During that time, he would often eat at his Uncle Ira's cafe called Schwarz Cafe in Sioux City. A waitress named Marguerite Leeders caught his eye and they were married on December 9. 1945 in Sibley, IA. To this union was born two children, Cheryl Lynn and Russell Dean.

Harold took a position with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and the family moved to Zion, Illinois in 1959.

Harold was a faithful church member and served on the church board as deacon and elder for many years. Harold joined the Gideons International where he was dedicated to Bible distribution and evangelism until his death.

By the mid 1970's, with the two children raised, Harold and Marguerite began to spend winters in Harlingen, TX where they eventually moved. Harold was an avid Table Tennis player and often competed in tournaments. He along with Marguerite also loved to Square Dance.

Harold is survived by his wife Marguerite and his two children, Cheryl Jagst of Byron, IL, and Russell of Visalia, CA, six grand children, Stephanie and Kimberly Jagst and David, Paul, Mark, and Aaron Schwarz and 8 great grandchildren.
