SERVICES PENDING FOR VERNA COON

Miss Verna Coon of Anthon passed away Wednesday at the Tott Nursing Home in Sioux City where she has been a resident for some time. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Anderson of Correctionville, and Mrs. Maude Page of Hinton.

Funeral services are pending. The Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville is in charge of arrangements.

MISS VERNA COON 1881-1971

Miss Verna Coon, 90, daughter of George and Ella Estella Coon was born March 15, 1881, near Correctionville and passed away August 11 at a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.

She was a life long resident of Woodbury County, living in and near the Correctionville-Anthon areas. She was a teacher in Woodbury County Schools for more than 50 years. After retiring from teaching she moved to Anthon, later going to the nursing home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Anderson of Correctionville, and Mrs. Maude Page of Hinton; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Coon of Sioux City, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held August 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville. Allen Burnham, pastor of the church of Christ officiated. Dean Cockburn was organist. Selections were “How Great Thou Art” and “Old Rugged Cross.”

Pallbearers were Roland Hart, Roger Mead, Gerald Mahin, Moss Andersen, Kenneth Heath and John Kinney.

Interment was in t he Correctionville Cemetery with the Barker Funeral Home in charge.
