The Correctionville News
16 April 1931

Sarah Elizabeth Miller was born February 4, 1841, at Galena, Illinois, the fourth child of William and Catherine Miller. She is the last one of the five children in the family.

She grew to womanhood in Wisconsin and was united in marriage to E.D. Sanford. Seven children were born to this union. One died in infancy, two others passed away after growing to manhood-J.W. and W.D.

Those remaining to mourn her passing are Laura Harmon of Parker, South Dakota, Charles S. Sanford of Woonsocket, South Dakota, Cornelia Sanford of Correctionville, Iowa, and Susie Metcalf of Chamberlain, South Dakota, besides these there are many relatives and friends who will miss her.

At an early date she was baptized and united with the Methodist church at Good Hope. She has been a loyal follower of her faith in Christ through many years. She was a wonderful mother, neighbor and friend, endearing herself to all who knew her. On April 13, 1931, she passed to her reward at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harmon, at Parker, South Dakota, being 90 years, 2 months and 9 days of age. In her passing, the last of the pioneers who settled on the Good Hope ridge has gone. Her toils are over. She has entered her rest-the hope of her entire lifetime.

Services were held in the Evangelical church at 2 p.m. April 15, following short services in the home of her son, C.D. Sanford. Burial was made in the Good Hope Cemetery; Rev. J.S. Deedrick was the officiating pastor. Burial was in charge of the Wilson Undertaking Service.
