The Correctionville News
3 January 1946

John Franklin Riordan, son of Lemuel and Harriet Riordan, was born June 27, 1871, at Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and passed away at his home northwest of Correctionville Wednesday morning, December 26, 1945, after a lingering illness.

He was 74 years of age. He had not been well for several months but was only confined to his bed for ten days. When he was eleven, in the year 1882, he came to Iowa with his parents in a covered wagon. Three years later they moved to the farm which has since been his home.

In young manhood he became a member of Good Hope Methodist church. John's entire life was exemplified as a true Christian man. He had a deep devotion for his Maker and a love for all his fellowmen. His dominating thought was helping someone else in their trouble with never a thought for his own comfort or gain. Especially was he interested in and had love for little children, and all children loved him.

After the death of his father he remained on the farm and continued operating the home place in conjunction with his brother, Will.

He leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, W.D. Riordan, Correctionville, Albert Riordan, Pierson, one sister, Mrs. Hattie Dreesen of Westfield, Iowa, his stepmother, Mrs. Emma Riordan and three half sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hash, Richmond, California, Mrs. Orfa Bleasdell, Moville, and Mrs. Goldie Holcomb, Correctionville, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Wilson-Hull Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Dyson officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery.
