Harriet Howe was born February 17, 1840, in Boone Co., Illinois, and died in Woodbury Co., Iowa, May 16, 1891. When a small child she moved to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, where she lived until she came to Iowa in 1882. She was married to Lemuel J. Riordan in 1860 and with him moved to Woodbury County in 1882 and has resided here ever since.

She was the mother of nine children, all living. A loving wife and an affectionate mother and loved and respected by all who knew her best, she was converted early and was a member of the Baptist church for over 30 years. She leaves a husband and children.
