Kathy "Kassi" Jean Riordan, 57, died at home on Friday, March 4, 201l, in Prairie Home, Neb. of ovarian cancer. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 22, 1953. Kassi and her family resided in Omaha, and she graduated from North High School in 1972. Kassi was part of the North High Madrigals acappella choral group and played violin in the orchestra. She was active in the Trinity Methodist Church youth group and often sang solos. Kassi achieved the standing of "First Class Girl Scout" and was selected to represent the Omaha Council at a leadership convention for Girl Scouts in Boston, Mass. Kassi worked summers as counselor at Camp Wa-Sha-Tee Girl Scout camp.

She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1977. She attended the Boulder School of Massage Therapy in Boulder, Colo., graduating and receiving her national certification and licensing in 1987. She continued her education in the area of massage therapy, Reiki, lymphatic drainage, cranial therapy and was widely respected and sought out for her talents. For 22 years, Kassi maintained a full private practice at the The Center for Well-Being in Lincoln, Neb. Her spiritual practice was based in Buddhism.

Kassi was curious about everything and maintained a large reference library. She loved cooking and eating great food. She relished outdoor activities including organic gardening, her pets, beekeeping, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and annual backpacking trips around the United States and Europe.

She was a valued and important part of her Lincoln community and will be deeply missed by a multitude of friends.

Memorials are being accepted to add to an academic scholarship in her name. Celebration of Life on Thursday, March 10 at 2 p.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 'O' St., Lincoln.
