PIERSON, Iowa -A. Dale Riordan, 83, of Pierson passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pierson Christian Church, with the Rev. Clifton Cockburn officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

A. Dale Riordan was born March 14, 1920, in Pierson, Iowa, the son of Albert H. and Gladys (Baker) Riordan. He was raised on a farm east of Pierson and attended Pierson School. Following his education, he was employed with F.H. Anderson Garage. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. Dale proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1945. He taught auto mechanics for the Army in Panama. Dale returned to work at F.H. Anderson Garage in 1946.

On Sept. 29, 1946, Albert and Effie J. Kirchner were united in marriage in Correctionville, Iowa. The couple made, their home in Pierson, where Dale worked for E.A. Karsten. Dale started Riordan Garage in 1948. He was also a bus driver and mechanic for the Kingsley-Pierson School District for 26 years, retiring in 1997.

Dale was baptized into Christ at Correctionville Church of Christ. He was presently a member of Pierson Christian Church. He had served on the Pierson Town Council and the Pierson Fire Department. Dale was also a longtime member of Sooland Antique Cars Inc.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Effie of Pierson; two sons, Gary and Roger, both of Pierson; three grandsons, Bill, Bobby and Garret Riordan; a great-granddaughter, Brooke; a great-grandson, Matthew; two sisters, Mildred Seehusen of Early, Iowa, and Letha Johnson of Sioux City; two brothers, Donald and his wife, Beverly of Pierson, and Bruce and his wife, Pearl of Correctionville, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter and two brothers-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Bill Riordan, Bobby Riordan, Garret Riordan, Dave Riordan, John Johnson and Matt Todd.
