Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Richardson, whose death was chronicled in the News last week were held from the local Methodist church last Sunday afternoon, Rev. M.L. Sunderlin, pastor of that church, officiating.

Interment was made in Good Hope Cemetery beside her husband and the two children who preceded her in death. Mary E. Sargent was born December 20, 1840, at Bangor, Maine, and died at Correctionville, Iowa, April 9, 1924, age 83 years, 3 months and 20 days.

When just a child she moved with her parents to Faribault, Minnesota. Here she was united in marriage to Lewis B. Richardson on March 13, 1864. A year later they came to Correctionville where for the last 59 years she has made her home in the same township. She was a pioneer and gave her best that civilization might bud and blossom.

She was united with the Methodist Episcopal church and later joined the Congregational church. She was also a member of the G.A.R. and a charter member of the Rebekah lodge when it was organized at Pierson, Iowa.

Those who preceded her in death include her son, George L. in August 1869, her daughter, Martha A. on November 9, 1895, her husband on April 3, 1907, and her daughter Lulu M. on March 24, 1919.

She leaves her children, Guy J. and Frank L. of Lake Andes, South Dakota, Mrs. Irene D. Severens of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nellie Keiser of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, Milford of Arvada, Wyoming, Mrs. Ben Hathaway of Beach, North Dakota, Mrs. A.H. Sproul of Scotland, South Dakota, 27 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
