Jane "Jennie" Watson 1849 - 1916

Jennie Dykman was born in Rock County, Wis., Dec. 9th, 1849 and died in Sibley, Iowa, Feb. 24, 1916, aged 66 years, two months and 13 days. She was married to John M. Watson April 28, 1866. From Buchanan County, Iowa, they came to Woodbury County in 1871, settling near Pierson, being among the early settlers and pioneers of this vicinity. Until a few years ago they had resided here for a number of years.

Of the five children born to this home all are alive: Fred O Watson of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Ora Butler of Wilmont, Minn, H. A. Watson of Oregon, F.F. Watson and Mrs. M. F. McShea of Sibley. All were present at the funeral except H. A. Watson of Oregon.

Thirteen years ago the husband and father died at their home in Pierson. Mrs. Watson has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. McShea at Sibley, during the past nine years; in whose she was during her last illness and death. She has suffered greatly, but with patience and faith that Have been the consolation of those who ministered so faithfully and tenderly to her.

Mrs. Watson’s funeral was held at the home of her niece, Mrs. J. H. Benson in Pierson, on Saturday, Feb. 26th, 1916, services being held in the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Henry Albertson, assisted by Rev. A. J. Patterson, a comrade of Mr. Watson in the Civil war. Interment was made in the Watson family burial plot In Pierson cemetery. Aside from the children, those from out of town who attended the funeral were; Miss Minnie Downs of Sibley, a niece; Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Watson and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Watson of Correctionville.
