Geneva Lucille Smith, 99, of Elk Point, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Elk Point.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel in Sioux City.

Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 13, 1901, in Tabor, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver and Liza Jane (Rhodes) Timson. She graduated from Tabor High School in 1921 and attended Tabor College.

She married Asa Smith in 1923 in Malvern, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1935, where she was a home-maker. Her husband died in 1980 in Sioux City. She moved to Elk Point in 1998.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include a daughter- in-law, Helen Smith of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Helen Fenwick of Glenwood, Iowa; six grandchildren, Donna Nagel, Edward, James and Gene Hilton, Gayle Ahlers and David Smith; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Hilton; and a son, Edward Smith.
