John Anton "Jack" Pueppke Sr., 68, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul McKane of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 469 of Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Pueppke was born July 27, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of Anton and Myrtle (Murphy) Pueppke. He attended Sioux City schools and Heelan High School.

He married Helen F. Wilsbacher on Dec. 14, 1951, in Reno, Nev. The couple later divorced. He married Gloria Jean Chesley on Oct. 31, 1964, in Sioux City. She died Dec. 16, 1988, in Sioux City.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he was employed with General Motors for 11 years in Long Beach, Calif. He later moved to Sioux City, where he was employed with Millers Trailer Park for 10 years and then as a layout man with Sioux City Foundry for 16 years, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include four sons, John A. Pueppke Jr., Timothy A. Pueppke, Dan Conley and his wife, Paula, and David E. Conley and his wife, Debra, all of Sioux City; five daughters, Susan Kay and her husband, Timothy Nielson of California, Tamara and her husband, Arturo Villegas, Trisha and her husband, Brad Moore, and Tina Pueppke, all of Sioux City, and Tom and her husband, Mike Bolles of Springfield, Kan.; two sisters, Patricia Marie Toben of Akron, Iowa, and Kay and her husband, Doug Scofield of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Ray Pueppke.
