Funeral services for William Spencer Stearns, 67, of Hurley, who died last Friday, were conducted Sunday in the Engstrom Funeral Home with Lt. Jacob Bender of the Salvation Army officiating. The remains were taken to Pierson, la., for burial.

Mr. Stearns was born October 10, 1894 at Yankee Hollow, Ill., and moved to Hurley in 1951 after retiring as a grocery merchant at Pierson, la.

He was married to Mary Nelson in 1951. She died in 1960. He married Mrs. Lillian Sparks of Ironwood in 1960.

Mr. Stearns served in the Army during World War I as a member of the Rainbow Division in France and Germany.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Salinas, Calif.; Mrs. Otto Sievers of Inglewood, Calif., and Mrs. Milton Gustafson of Ironwood; four sons, George Stearns of Kingsley, la., John Sparks and Cecil Sparks of Ironwood, and George Sparks of Orlando, Fla., 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
