23 January 1913

Monday January 20, 1913, John H. Scott was buried from the M.E. Church, where a large number of his friends and relatives had gathered.

Rev. C. A. Anderson had charge of the service and preached a very helpful sermon from the text, “ Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him .” Splendid music was furnished by the choir, and Mr. Briggs sang a beautiful solo, “Abide with me.’'

John H. Scott was born in Franklin County, Penn., June 15, 1837, and died at his home in Pierson, la., on January 18, 1913, aged 75 years, 7 months and 3 days. He married Elizabeth Wilson at Montour, Tama County, Iowa, Oct 6, 1867. He enlisted in the 34th Illinois regiment in the early part of the Civil War and at the expiration of that enlistment he reenlisted and served during the entire war. After several weeks of suffering with asthma and heart trouble, he passed away, leaving a wife and five children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.
