George L. Flathers, 70, of Rock Branch, la., died late Friday in a hospital here following a two-week illness.

He was born on a farm which was homesteaded by his father September 12, 1869, near Rock Branch on highway 20. His wife was the former Lillian Yockey.

Survivors are the widow, a son Max of Correctionville; a daughter; Lois at home; a brother Ed of Iroquois, S. D and two sisters, Dolly Flathers of Rock Branch and Mrs. Harry Wetmore of Sioux City.

Services will be held at 2:80 p. m. today in the Rock Branch church. Rev. R. H. Forrester will officiate and interment will be in the Rock Branch cemetery.

The Osborn funeral home of Pierson has charge of arrangements.

Rock Branch Loses Beloved Neighbor

In the passing of George Flathers, the Rock Branch community has lost one of its oldest and most deeply respected citizens.

George Lewis Flathers was born September 12, 1869, on the Flathers homestead at Rock Branch, Iowa, being the son of Benjamin L. and Almira Frazier Flathers. Mr. Flathers lived for nearly seventy-one years, the end coming at a Sioux City hospital Friday afternoon, August 16.

He married Miss J. Lillian Yockey March 13, 1911, the wedding taking place at Onawa. To this union were born three children: Martha Lois, Benjamin Lewis who died during his high school days, and Max Gregory.

The family lived for five years at Clear Lake, S. D., nine years at Smithland and since that time in the Rock Branch community.

For the most part Mr. Flathers work was that of farming. He did his share of hard work as a farmer in his time. He drove no hard bargains, was regarded by all as honest and right in his dealings, willing always to help others in need He will be greatly missed from the Flatters’ Corner farm home, Rock Branch, where he lived for more than fifty years of his life. T

There survive him, the wife; the daughter, Lois, of Bakersfield, Calif.: the son, Max, of Rock Branch; granddaughter, Nancy Lorraine Flathers: a brother, Ed, of Iroquois, S. D.; two sisters, Mrs. H. A. Wetmore of Sioux City, and Miss Dolly Flathers of Rock Branch.

Funeral services were held in the Rock Branch Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, the pastor, Rev. Robt. H. Forrester, being in charge.

Pallbearers were: Harvey Miller, William Bohle, Walter Sadler, Ralph Wilcox, Raymond Mills, and Jerry Patterson.

Music for the funeral service was given by Mrs. Elmer Sadler, Mrs. Leslie Woodward, Ralph Walker and Gordon Sadler. The pianist was Mrs. Emery Klingensmith.

Mr. Flathers was laid to rest beside his son, Benjamin in the Rock Branch cemetery.
