Lillian Ruth Stearns, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Stearns, was born at Yankee Hollow, Illinois, September 9, 1892, and died at her home near Moville, Iowa, August 24, 1938, at the age of 45 years, 11 months and 15 days.

In April 1902 she moved with her parents to Stockton, Illinois, and later on March 20, 1909, to Pierson, Iowa. She graduated from Pierson High School with the class of 1911. Following graduation, she taught school for several years. On March 4, 1915, she married Joseph Bennett at Sioux City. To this union three children were born, namely, a son, Warren Eugene, who died in infancy in 1916, and two daughters Sibyl Vesta and Dorothy Lucille.

She was a member of the Pierson Nazarene Church.

In July 1938 she became very ill and was taken to Iowa City for treatment. She remained there a few weeks and upon her return came to the home of her parents where she stayed until two days before her death. She seemed to be much improved in health and expressed a desire to go home. The day she returned home she became critically ill and died the following day while enroute to the hospital.

Her death came as a great shock to all. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Joseph Bennett, her daughters, Sibyl and Dorothy, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Stearns, her brother Spencer and two sisters, Katie and Susan.

One brother, Martin, preceded her in death March 6, 1937. She also leaves many other close relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Rock Branch Church on Friday with Rev. Suckoo of Moville in charge. Burial was in Fairfield Cemetery at Rock Branch.
