Charles M. Ashley, 86, Anthon, died Monday at a Battle Creek, Iowa, hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Anthon. The Rev. John Wallace will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Branch Cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home of Anthon.

Mr. Ashley was born March 11, 1883, at Minden, Iowa. He moved with his parents as an infant to Battle Creek. When he was 7 years old, they moved from Battle Creek to Wolf Creek Township in Woodbury County. He lived in that township since, except for a year in California. He married Mary Johnson in Sioux City Jan. 1, 1906.

He was a member of Rock Branch United Methodist Church which he helped to build originally. He was a charter member of the Woodbury County Farm Bureau, and was past treasurer of Wolf Creek Township School Board for a number of years.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Fey of Anthon and Mrs. Betty Adler of Sioux City; two sons, Arvin and John, both of Anthon; 19 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.
