OTO, Iowa -- Mrs. Dean Reed, 76, a former mayor of Oto, died Wednesday in a Sioux City hospital of long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church at Oto. The Rev. John Vakulskas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Walter Funeral Home at Anthon.

Mrs. Reed, the former Gladys Mary Ives, was born Aug. 3, 1903, at Honey Creek. She moved with her parents as a child to the Oto community.

She was married to Henry McKenna in November 1921. He died in 1934.

She was married to Dean Reed Dec. 27, 1945, at Raton, N.M. They lived in Colorado and operated a cafe at Pueblo. She also operated a nursing home at Fowler, Colo. They moved to Oto in 1959. Mr. Keed died in April of 1978.

Mrs. Reed served as mayor of Oto for one term from 1978 to 1980.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar Society of the church. She was a former housekeeper at the St. Mary Parish. She was a past president of the auxiliary of Henry McKenna American Legion Post and a past chairman of the Woodbury County American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Reed was the first president and a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Oto, and she was an active worker with cancer drives.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Leo (Mary) Waderlch of Hornick and Mrs. Albert (Patricia) Schear of Colorado City, Colo.; two sons, James of Oto and Francis of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur of Rock Rapids and Clifford of Sioux City, and two sisters, Mrs. Vera Loebsack and Eva McKenna both of Sioux City.
