Frances Margaret Luchsinger

HORNICK, Iowa - Frances Margaret Luchsinger, 89, of Hornick died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, rural Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Frances was born Dec. 7, 1916, in rural Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Frank J. and Maggie (Mulvihill) Dunn. She was raised in the Salix/Sloan areas and attended country school in the Albaton, Iowa area. She graduated from Salix Public School in the class of 1935 and later was employed at N.P. Juneman Hardware and Implement at Sloan.

She married Harry W. Luchsinger on April 14, 1939, in Onawa, Iowa. To this union, two daughters, Jane P. and Sylvia L., were born. The couple made their home in Hornick before moving to "West-view Farm" in 1949, where they were engaged in farming, raising livestock and the Pioneer Seed business. Harry died on Nov. 18, 1984.

Frances was presently a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix and a former member of St. Phillip Catholic Church in Hornick until its closing.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Kenneth Handke of Correctionville, Iowa and Sylvia and Robert "Bob" Dietrich of Hornick; four grandchildren, Kevin (Karen) Handke of Sioux City, Mark (Renee) Dietrich of Le Mars, Iowa, Traci Handke of Sergeant Bluff and David Dietrich of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Kenneth Bolles, Kayla Handke and Justin, Ryan and Andrew Dietrich; a brother, Edwin J. (Fern) Dunn of South Sioux City; two sisters, Berniece Milligan of Brookings, S.D. and JoAnn (Robert) O'Donnell of Sioux City; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald C. Dunn; and two sisters, Margaret Lines and Pauline Powell.
