Mrs. Alfred Luchsinger, 74, Whiting, died October 16 at Burgess Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. October 20 at the Hornick Methodist Church in Hornick. The Rev. Dale Church, pastor of the church, and the Rev Thomas Guenther, pastor of the Whiting Congregational Church, officiated. Burial was in the Willow Township Cemetery under direction of Wood Funeral Home of Whiting.

Mrs. Luchsinger, the former Elaine Lind, was born January 14, 1902, in Skaraborg, Sweden. She was married to Lloyd M. King November 20, 1920. He died in February of 1923. She was married to Alfred Luchsinger October 4, 1928, in Eldora. He died in January of 1953.

She had been a life-long resident of the Whiting and Hornick communities and a member of the Hornick Methodist Church.

Mrs. Luchsinger was a student at Morningside College in Sioux City in 1924, 1925 and 1944 She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1954, a Masters Degree in 1955 and did post graduate work in 1956 and 1963, all at Iowa State University She also did post graduate work at Denver University in 1957, Oregon State University in 1958, the University of Arizona in 1960 and Pennsylvania State University in 1963.

Mrs. Luchsinger taught public school in Whiting from 1920 to 1921 and from 1923 to 1924. She was a home economics teacher at Hornick from 1926 to 1932 and from 1943 to 1946. She was associate professor and department head of Home Management, Housing and Equipment at South Dakota State University from 1955 to 1966. Mrs. Luchsinger also was the associate professor of home management and family housing at New York State University College at Oneonta from 1966 to 1968.

She was the chairman of the Women's Section Advanced Research Council at Iowa State University from 1941 to 1942 and was the recipient of the Institute of Life Insurance grant at Denver University in 1957.

Mrs. Luchsinger was a member of the American Association of Housing Educators, the American Home Economic Association, the American Association of University Women, the American Federated Women's Clubs, Phi Upsilon Omicron, Omicron Nu, Pi Gamma Nu, and Sigma Kappa fraternal organizations. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Whiting Chapter 470.

Mrs. Luchsinger was the author of a book entitled, "The House: Principles-Resources-Dynamics" published in 1965 and was the recipient of first place in the Philadelphia Book Show in 1965. She was listed in the 8th edition, 1974-75 of Marquis Who's Who of American Women.

Survivors include a son, L.W. "Bill" King of Whiting; a brother, Robert H. Lind of Spring City, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial to the American Cancer Society, has been established in Mrs. Luchsinger's name.
