Dorothy Domina Alderson

Sioux City -- Dorothy Mae Domina Alderson, 92, of Sioux City passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. COVID-19 restrictions will apply.

Dorothy was born July 25, 1928, in Newcastle, Neb., to Clifton and Mary Domina. Her family settled around Climbing Hill, Iowa, and Dorothy graduated from Onawa School. While living in Sioux City and working at the old Pierce Street Mansion as a maid, Dorothy was corresponding with a pen pal, Sergeant Kenneth R. Alderson, whom, having never met in person prior to the wedding, was married on Dec. 31, 1953, in Forestville, Calif. Together they raised five children. After being in several states and one overseas station, the family moved to Sioux City in 1966.

Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom for the most part but did sell Avon door to door for several years. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles.

Dorothy is survived by her five children, Gayle (Wallace) Flowers of Williamsburg, Va., Margaret (Leonard) Miller of Sioux City, Evelyn (Joe) Pippitt of Oto, Iowa, Ken (Connie) Alderson of Sioux City, and Twila (Tim) Warren of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her brother, Melvin (Nancy) Domina of Omaha; and her sisters, Lois (Jim) Brownlee of Sioux City, Dee Dee Kendell of Omaha, and Phyllis (Jim) LaBarge of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Mary Domina; her husband, Ken; brothers, Orville and Donald; sister, LaDonna Rowell; and a brother-in-law, Gary Kendell.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Siouxland and their staff for the kind and caring care they gave her, and a very special blessing to Tim Warren for his loving care and comfort to Dorothy.
