Richard James Marx II

Azle, Texas, formerly Sioux City

Richard James Marx II, 73, of Azle, went to be with Jesus on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021.

Due to the current pandemic, an intimate committal service with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps for close family and friends will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Rick was born on Oct. 4, 1947, in Sioux City to Richard and Frances (Brostrom) Marx. As a senior at Heelan High School, he worked as a page boy in the United States House of Representatives and graduated from Heelan High School in 1966. After attending Briar Cliff College, he joined the United States Marines in August 1968 and went overseas to serve in the First Marine Air Wing in Vietnam in February 1969.

In 1971, he graduated from Briar Cliff College, started working for the Milwaukee Railroad, and married Virginia Yohnke Marx. They had two children, Jason and Theresa. They later relocated to Houston to work for the Interstate Commerce Commission and then with the Urban Mass Transit Administration of Fort Worth. Eventually, he and his family settled in Azle, Texas, where he owned Century 21 Real Estate in Lake Worth and Ricmar Real Estate in Azle. Along with his wife, he started Marx Greenhouses, a hydroponic greenhouse business growing and selling produce to specialty and affiliated food stores.

In addition, he had a mission heart for the homeless and was involved in Habitat for Humanity and Loaves and Fishes of Fort Worth. Those who knew him remember his sense of humor and generous heart.

Rick is survived by his two children, Jason Marx of Azle, and Theresa Marx Miller and her husband, Kiel Miller, of Glen Rose; grandchildren, Colton Miller and wife Summer of Comanche, Cayden Miller of Stephenville, Callyn Miller of Glen Rose; great-granddaughter, Brylee Marie Miller of Comanche; sister-in-law, Risé Marx of Sioux City; nephew and niece, Joshua Marx of Sioux City, and Marissa (and Marco) Marx of Omaha; and grandniece, Umanah Djibonon of Omaha.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Richard and Frances Marx; brother, Scott Marx; and numerous aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank Holy Savior Hospice and his Silver Creek Assisted Living family for loving him and taking care of him the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Catholic Charities
