Robert E. Coney, 81, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill G. Mailer officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion, Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Coney was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Sioux City, the son of Robert W. and Bessie (Norton) Coney. He married Dolores E. Weir on March 28, 1936, in Vermillion, S.D. She died May 14, 1985, in Sioux City. He was the owner and operator of Coney's Mobil Service for 45 years, retiring in 1981. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 77, the American Legion, Monahan Post 64, the Riverside Congregate Meal Center, and the Siouxland Senior Center. He was previously a board member of Matney's Westside Manor. He was a member of The Sons of the American Revolution, where he was a past geneologist.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Robert J. and Patricia of Sioux City and Donald H. and Virginia of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two daughters and their husbands, Janet and Douglas McAlpine and Carol and Charles Nearman all of Reno, Nev.; four sisters, Ruth Sandin of Tahoe Vista, Calif., Nora and her husband Ken Reed of Los Altos, Calif., Margaret and her husband Phil Bennett of San Leandro, Calif., and Arlene and her husband Jack Ferdricks of Topeka, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John; and daughter, Joan Coney; and a special friend, Agnes Undine.

Pallbearers will be Bob, Jim, Doug, John, and Dan Coney, Paul McAlpine, and Greg Evans.
