Lawrence Leo Cress, 80, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, at his residence, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with a military graveside service by American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Cress was born July 5, 1916, at Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Herb and Ella (Barnum). He married Myrtle E. Brink on Oct. 12, 1970, in Las Vegas, Nev. He worked at C&L Motors and was a self-employed cement contractor in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and American Legion Monahan Post 64.

Survivors include his wife; one sister, Lucille Peterson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Claire; and one sister, Agnes.

Pallbearers include Ross Potter, Bill Pinney, Rick Novotny, Dr. Ed Anderson, Dick Cabana and Duane Cory.
