ALLEN, Neb. ( Died Sioux City)

Duane Barry Koester, 68, of Allen died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Allen, with the Rev. Nancy Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in rural Allen. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield, Neb.

Mr. Koester was born Dec. 11, 1928, the son of Paul and Esther (Black) Koester. He graduated from Allen High School. He married Mary Lou Jackson on Sept. 28, 1950. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed in the Allen-Dixon area until retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Valerie and Jon Rastede of Madisonville, Ky. and Joan and Barney Jorgensen of Winnetoon, Neb.; four sons and their wives, Jim and Barb of York, Neb., Lindy and Lori of Concord, Neb., Dan and Lulu of Missoula, Mont., and Doug and June of Carroll, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; his mother; a brother and his wife, Larry and Glory Ann of Allen; and a sister and her husband, Carol Ann and Duane Roberts of Boise, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Marcia Lundin.

Pallbearers will be Scott, Stan and Jeff McAfee, Dale Jackson, Larry Boswell, and Jim Stapleton.
