SMITHLAND, Iowa -

Ronald Avery Maynard, 54, of Smithland died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Maynard was born Jan. 17, 1942, near Rodney, Iowa, the son of Leslie and Helen (Jensen) Maynard. He graduated from Castana High School, in Castana, Iowa, in 1960. He married Margaret Ann Johnston on June 18, 1960, in Ticonic, Iowa. The couple farmed and raised cattle in the Ticonic and Smithland areas.

He was a member of the Ticonic United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board. He was a past president with the Monona County Cattleman's Association. He was a board member of the Farm Bureau and a member of the Iowa Corn and Soybean Growers Association.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Michael and Annette of Oto, Iowa, Mark and Joanne of Castana and John and Tracey of Battle Creek, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Ronda and Alan Timmerman of Castana; a sister and her husband, Carol and Ed Davis of Anthon, Iowa; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Ticonic United Methodist Church and St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton.
