Herbert D. Jacobson

SIOUX CITY-Herbert D. Jacobson, 92, of Mountain View, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009, at a Sunnyvale, Calif., nursing home. A lifetime resident of Sioux City. Herb moved to Mountain View to live with his son in September 2008. Herb has now been reunited with his wife.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Herbert David Jacobson was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Sioux City, the son of Hugo and Sigrid (Carlson) Jacobson. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. In August 1942, Herb enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a boatswain's mate first class on Jan. 26, 1946, after having served in the South Pacific.

He married Mary Lyn Dore on June 25, 1949. To this union a son, David was born. Herb retired from Albertson's Sioux Tools in 1983. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors include a son, David and his wife, Cynthia of Mountain View, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Cliff Jacobson of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lyn on Sept. 18, 2008; a step-son, Danny; two sisters, Sig Brunssen and Dorothy Riley; and a brother, John Jacobson.
