Ross B. Hofeldt

SIOUX CITY - Ross B. Hofeldt, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, May 15, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ross was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Sioux City, to F.T. and Nellie (Wood) Hofeldt. Ross grew up in Sioux City and had lived in Sioux City most of his life. He married Vivian Entrikin on Jan. 9, 1943, in South Sioux City. She died Jan. 26, 1977, in Sioux City. Ross worked for Armour & Co. for many years.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ross was a historian who loved telling stories about the old times and the Missouri River.

Survivors include three daughters, Dianna Lant and her husband, Richard of Aurora, Colo., Penny Strother of Abilene, Texas, and Nancy Albus and her husband, Blaine of Bancroft, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Suzy, Heidi, Jody Ross, Sunny, Brent, Darby and Michael Ross; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian; a son, Gary Ross Hofeldt; a sister, Shirley Sorensen; and a brother, Merle Hofeldt
