David 'Captain Dave' Brubaker

SIOUX CITY - David Milton "Captain Dave" Brubaker, 53, formerly of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at his home in Salem, Mass. Services will be held at a later date in Sioux City.

Davy was born in Sioux City on Sept. l, 1955. He was the second child of seven born to David and Mary Ann Brubaker. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and graduated in 1973 from Central High School. He also graduated from Western Iowa Tech's piano tuning course.

In 1984, Davy moved to Boston and attended Berkeley College for several years and majored in music. He remained in Massachusetts until his death. Besides enjoying a good time and being an entertainer, Davy worked in construction, drove a taxi, was a Louisiana oil rigger, worked as a parking attendant for Fenway Park and served in the U.S. Army.

Davy will always be remembered as having a very big heart, a gracious soul and a great love for music. Dave was the kind of person that if you gave him a nickel, he'd pay you back a dime.

He is survived by his mother, MaryAnn Brubaker; his brothers, Craig and Robin, both of Sioux City, and Scott Brubaker of Minnesota; and his sisters, Angie (Dave) Via and Lisa (Jay) Schenzel, all of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his older sister, Maureen; his father, David; and both sets of grandparents, among others
