SIOUX CITY - Joseph "Joe" Strom, 41, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Joseph Strom was born March 9, 1968, in Sioux City, the son of Kermit and Sharon (Tracy) Strom. He attended Sioux City Community Schools and West High School. Following high school, he was employed with Darling International for four years. He then was employed with Fed-Ex Freight for 12 years.

He was united in marriage to Sherri Gries on May 2, 1992, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed making people laugh and was known as the entertainer. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending the many activities of his children.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sherri; their five children, Brittni, Kylie, Lexie, Carter and Brooklyn, all of Sioux City; his granddaughter, Denver Kay Zirbel of Sioux City; his father and his wife, Kermit and Pat Strom of Sioux City; his mother and her husband, Sharon and Jerry Madison of Sioux City; his brother and his wife, Jeff and Kim Strom of Sioux City; his grandmother and her husband, Ilene and Bud Mareau of Sloan, Iowa; his mother and father-in-law, Frank and Ruth Gries of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Brenda Gries of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Joshua Gries of Sioux City; nieces and nephew, Derek, Carson, Olivia Strom, Alyssa Gries, Jake Beargeon and Kolby and Kaleb Gries; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Jarrod Beargeon, Andy Merrigan, Kenny Radar, Jamie Drake, Charlie Boettger and Todd Wheelock.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
