Margaret VanMaanen

SIOUX CITY - Margaret VanMaanen, 90, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyer-broschapels.com.

Margaret was born March 16, 1919, in Sioux City, to Elmer and Claire May (Erwine) Wise. She married Albertus VanMaanen in 1936 at Sioux City. He preceded her in death in March of 1981. Margaret was employed as a nurse's aide at St. Vincent Hospital in the i960 and 1970s.

She was a longtime member of the Baptist Church in North Sioux City. In her free time, she loved to sing and play the guitar and piano.

Survivors include five sons, David VanMaanen and Robert VanMaanen, both of Sioux City, Leon VanMaanen of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mike VanMaanen of Clarksville, Tenn., and Charles VanMaanen of Lomita, Calif.; a brother, Charlie of Hemet, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth of Sioux City; and 15 grandchildren. .

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Gary as an infant; three brothers; and three sisters.
