KINGSLEY, Iowa ( Died Sioux City)-Dorothy M. Schieuer, 88, formerly of Kingsley passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Sunrise Manor Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday with a rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Dorothy was born March 2, 1921, in rural Moville, Iowa, to Otto and Hannah (Byers) Petersen. She attended Moville High School, graduating in 1939.

She married Roy W. Schieuer at St. Michael's Rectory in Kingsley on Sept. 20, 1939. They welcomed the birth of eight children and celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage. The couple resided and farmed in the Moville and Hinton, Iowa areas before moving to Kingsley in 1953.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She also was a member of St. Michael's Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America for 41 years, holding offices in both. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, crocheting, making rosaries, tending to her flower gardens and caring for a multitude of house plants.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Ron and Nancy Schieuer of Sioux City, Loren and Jane Schieuer of Pierson, Iowa, and Rick and Jewel Schieuer of Omaha; five daughters, Margaret Teter of Sioux City, Coralene Arkfeld of Yreka, Calif., Pat and her husband, David Walker of Bella Vista, Ark., Sandra and her husband, Richard Wyssmann of Kansas City, Mo., and Sheryl and her husband, Loren Koch of Kingsley; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; three step-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and his wife, Kenny and Loretta Schieuer of Anthon, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; and a son-in-law, Larry Teter.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Siouxland, 4300 Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City, IA. 51104.
