SIOUX CITY - Noel Eugene Fries, 72, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Sioux City, went home to be with his Lord July 4, 2009, after a fierce battle with cancer.

Memorial services were held July 10 at Crossroads Fellowship at 2721 Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Arrangements were under the direction of Cremation Society of the Carolinas.

Noel Fries was born April 24, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Hans Peter and Mildred "Bunnie" Marion Fries. He attended Sioux City Public School, graduating from Central High School in 1955. He attended Morningside College and graduated in 1959.

After college, he worked for GMAC and IBM for 30 years. After retiring, he worked under contract for IBM, in Omaha. He was responsible for repair and maintenance of computers for the Federal Military Intelligence Agency.

He married Neva Jean Lang on May 14, i960, in Hinton, Iowa.

He loved spending time at his grandparent's farm in Hawkeye Drive, with his grandparents and also with his cousins, Jacqueline and William Brewer and Gary and Janet Hoblit.

He is survived by his wife, Neva; their daughters, Nancy and Rick Martis, Nicki and Trevor Cannon, Natalie Archambault and Noelle and Jim Walsh; seven grandchildren, Davin and Cheyenne Martis, Olivia and Calvin Cannon, Chris and Heather Archambault and Beckett Walsh; and a great-grandchild, Lakin Martis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans Fries on Dec. 26, 1978, and Mildred on June 30, 2004.
