SIOUX CITY - Dennis T. "Denny" Clark, 84, of Sioux City died peacefully Sunday, July 12, 2009, at a local assisted living facility.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Denny was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Sloan, Iowa, the son of Patrick and Winifred (Smith) Clark. He began helping his father at the age of eight with the family farm, driving the tractor, raising crops and pigs. He graduated from Salix High School, then spent the rest of his life farming south of Sioux City.

He was united in marriage to Rae Ellen Peck on May 27, 1978. Following his retirement from farming, the couple enjoyed wintering in Florida, Arizona and California.

He enjoyed taking his motor home and Rae Ellen to the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa, and attending the Ponca Rodeo. He, for many years, sold seed corn and feed to area farmers. He enjoyed walking the land with his dogs, square dancing at the Moose Lodge and telling stories to his grandchildren. The couple also especially enjoyed the fellowship with others at the McDonalds on Singing Hills Boulevard, at a morning coffee club.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rae Ellen of Sergeant Bluff; a step-son, Scott Peck and his wife, Julie of Omaha; a step-daughter, Ann (Peck) and her husband, Dr. Jon Tessar of Woodbury, Minn.; Jim Willems and his wife, Karen of Lansing, Mich., who was just like a son to him; four grandchildren, Tara and Zack Peck, Hannah Peck Cowles and Reese Peck Cowles; a sister, Patricia and her husband, Jim Settlemire; seven nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Ring and Gertrude Kenny.

The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Siouxland or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix.
