SIOUX CITY- Herthel C. Uhl, 95, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Char- Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, Iowa.

Services will be l p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.

Herthel was born on April 18, 1914, in Winnebago, Neb., to Fred and Elsie (Nelson) Wilcox. The family lived in Sloan, Iowa, Canton, S.D., and then settled in the Branson, Iowa, area.

She married Clarence M. Uhl on April 13, 1939, in Sioux City. He died on Jan. 15, 2000, in Sioux City. After her marriage, she lived in Sioux City until 1945. Then they moved to their farm on the outskirts of Sioux City. She was a homemaker and farm wife.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Carmelite Guild. She and Clarence took vegetables from their garden to the Carmelite Sisters. She was also a supporter of the Queen of Peace at Trinity Heights. She enjoyed reading, working in her garden and doing jigsaw puzzles. She also helped Clarence on the farm and did canning and cooking for her family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Theresa M. Hennings of Omaha, Neb.; five grandsons and their wives, Mark D. Hennings of Las Vegas, Nev., Brian D. and Kelly Hennings of Sussex, Wis., Eric D. and Heather Hennings of Lawton, Iowa, Jason D. Hennings of Estherville, Iowa, and Scott D. and Melissa Hennings of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren, Dillion and Kaitlyn Hennings, Lexis and Ty Hennings, Dawson Hennings and Kolbe Hennings; a nephew, Denny Trizila of Sioux City; two nieces, Sherry Goodteacher of Aurora, Colo., and Diane Trizila of Sioux City; three sisters-in-law, Irma Nice, Ruth Nice and Peg Uhl; a brother-in-law, Bernard Uhl; and many other beloved nieces and nephews and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Jeanette Genson and Viola May Wilcox and a nephew, Terry Trizila.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mark D., Brian D., Eric D. and Scott D. Hennings.
