SIOUX CITY-Yulanda V. Dickson-Simon, 85, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Retirement Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis W. Meinen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Yula was born April 8, 1924, in Hahn, Mo., the daughter of King and Ella A. (Deck) Gaines. She was raised near Zalmo, Mo., where she attended school. She moved to Sioux City in 1941.

She married Robert Dickson on July 11, 1943, in Rapid City, S.D. He died Sept. 27, 1994, in Sioux City. She married Gerald Simon on June 19, 2000, in Sioux City. She was a district manager for the Figurettes Co. and a clerk at the Continental Baking Co.

She was a member of the Holy Spirit community.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Simon of Sioux City; two daughters, Sherry Chamberlain of Syracuse, Utah, and Karen Fleckenstein of Whidbey Island, Wash.; five grandchildren, Gina Fleckenstein of Sammamish, Wash., Brandon Fleckenstein of Seattle, Wash., Barry Jensen of Murfreesboro, Term., Kirk Jensen of Creston, Iowa, and Kim Uhl of Syracuse, Utah; eight grandchildren; a sister, Carna Watkins of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a brother, Heuda Gaines of St. Louis, Mo.; four step-children, Mark Simon, Paul Simon, Julie Dalton and Nancy Thode; eight step-grandchildren; and three great-step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert; and 12 brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 North Michigan Avenue FL 17, Chicago, HI. 60601.

Her gracious and loving spirit will be left to cherish
