23 April, 2009SIOUX CITY -- Earl Creston Carlson, 89, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Earl was born Feb. 12, 1920, in Plainview, Neb., the son of Ernest and Signe (Nelson) Carlson. He graduated from Plainview High School. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945, during which he spent three years in England.
He married Mary Ann Casper on Aug. 3, 1967, in South Sioux City. He drove trucks for Raskins Trucking, Henry Trailers and Iowa Beef Processors. He was a friend of Bill W. for 33 and one half years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Carlson; a son, Richard Carlson of St. George, Utah; two stepsons, Don Shinkle and Dennis Shinkle, both of Sioux City; two stepdaughters, Leanna Andrews and Donna Lewis, both of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Steckleberg of Osmond, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Carlson of Osmond and Darlene Carlson of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Melvin and Leslie Carlson.
Memorials may be given to Mercy Medical Center and Siouxland Aging.
