SIOUX CITY -- Carolyn L. Thompson, 70, of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the hospice unit at Indian Hills, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. R. Paul Johnston officiating. Private family graveside services will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Carolyn was born Jan. 30, 1939, in Woodbury County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Irene (Clause) Boggs. She was raised on a farm near the Moville, Iowa, area. She graduated from Climbing Hill (Iowa) High School in 1957, where she played basketball all four years.

On Sept. 5, 1958, she was united in marriage to Thomas "Tommy" Thompson in Sioux City. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last September. She began her 30 year employment with the Sioux City Community School District by driving a special education school van. The remainder of her career, she worked as a secretary aide at Lincoln Elementary School for more than 20 years. She served as president of the Secretary Aides Association for one year. She retired in 2002.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council. She golfed in a league at Sun Valley for many years and was an avid bowler in her early years. She loved to play cards with her friends. She was a sports enthusiast whether attending games or watching them on television. She cherished every moment that she spent with her grandchildren. The couple enjoyed wintering with their Arizona friends in Apache Junction.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy; two daughters and their husbands, Shelly and Tom McCabe of Hinton, Iowa, and Trudy and Laddy Peck of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Marlyn and Elgerd Arnett of Sioux City and Betty and Maynard Ahlquist of Climbing Hill, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Richard and Carol Sue Boggs of California; five grandchildren, Brody McCabe, Morgan McCabe, Cory Peck, Ryan Peck and Kyle Peck; a sister-in-law, Dora Boggs of Sergeant Bluff; a brother-in-law and his wife, Jerry and Evelyn Thompson of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Bob Boggs.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland.
