SIOUX CITY -- Elmer E. Steele, 68, of Sioux City died Monday, April 13, 2009, at an Omaha hospital following complications due to a stroke.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Elmer was born May 3, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Elmer D. and Minnie (Longshore) Steele. He attended West Junior and Central High School. On Nov. 16, 1963, in Elk Point, S.D., he married Carole King.

Elmer worked as a machinist for North American Manufacturing for several years and for 10 years, he worked at Cub Foods. He retired in October 2004.

He enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing, western movies and playing video games on the computer. One of his favorite pastimes was teasing his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; two sons, Bryan Steele of Loveland, Colo., and Patrick Steele of Buffalo, Minn.; two daughters, Tracy Minter and Kathleen Harrison, both of Sioux City; grandchildren, Michael Minter and his fiancee, Lindsey DeLaughter, Nathan Minter, Dustin Minter, Taylor Minter, Laci Harrison, Bailey Harrison and Madison Harrison; a brother, Jack Steele of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Brandon Minter and Michael Steele; and a son-in-law, Fred Minter.
