AKRON, Iowa (Died Sioux City)-- Emil John Willer, 87, of Akron passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be later this summer in Akron. Burial will be at a later date with the family present. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Emil was born June 26, 1921, to Edward and Anna (Eilers) Willer. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He attended country school and also Akron High School. He stayed on the farm to help his parents until 1946, when he moved to Akron, where he worked for Breitbarth Furniture Store. He also worked at the K&K Store. He then went into the insurance and real estate business, later doing some income tax preparation.

He enjoyed being a ham radio operator and a member of the Shriners White Horse Patrol and performing in the Rose Bowl Parade. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Temple Freedom Lodge 434. Emil was a square dance caller for 20 years and was a member of the Akron Commercial Club and past president. He retired in 1996 and enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends in the morning at a place they called Down Under and at the bowling alley in the afternoon.

Left to mourn are two sisters, Frances (Willer) Barinsky and her husband, Raymond of Branson, Mo., and Betty (Willer) Beeck and husband, Albert of Akron; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald; and two sisters in infancy.
