SIOUX CITY -- Vasilios D. "Bill" Eliades, 85, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died April 5, 2009, at a hospital in Pomona, Calif.

Services were April 9 at St. Prophet Elias Church in San Bernardino, Calif. Burial was in Olivewood Memorial Park in Riverside.

Mr. Eliades was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Langa, Macedonia, Greece. He came to the United States and to Sioux City in 1955. He was employed at John's Cafe in Sioux City until 1960, when he opened his own restaurant, Bill's Cafe, in the Insurance Exchange Building. He moved to California in 1975 and operated a restaurant in Riverside until he retired in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Tom Eliades and his wife Nancy of Yucca Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Effie Le Vasseur and her husband, Chuck, of Chino, Calif.; two brothers, Tom Eliades of Sioux City and Kosta Eliades of New York City; three sisters, Penelope Premtis and Elene Kosmopoulis, both of New York City, and Kostantula Sioskis of Kastoria, Greece; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Heidi, in 1984.
